FREAK ASYLUM INTERVIEW IN G3 AND MUSIC NOW MAGAZINES IN THE USA
Freak Asylum’s Kelly Llorenna has just been interviewed in a full page article in G3 and Music Now Magazines in the USA.
Full interview is here:
Freak Asylum singer Kelly Llorenna is sat in Love To Infinity’s studio in Manchester England surrounded by silver, gold and platinum discs from Love To Infinity’s many hits from the past 20 years for artists like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera and Aretha Franklin….
Kelly Llorenna and Love To Infinity have just finished recording the new Freak Asylum album – “Let The Madness begin!”…..Released on Love To Infinity Records here in UK Via AMD/Universal first quarter 2012….
Kelly previously had 9 top 20 hits in the UK and with N-Trance and as a solo artist including the #2 smash hit “Set You Free” one of the biggest club records in the UK ever……
Kelly how did you decide to start Freak Asylum?
FREAK ASYLUM – I was in Las Vegas for the Billboard Magazine Summit with Producer Andy Lee from Love To Infinity and we were sitting in a bar discussing bands and we decided to form Freak Asylum. I’ve known Andy since he was recording engineer on my first Hit record “Set You Free”.
We then decided to get in touch with our good friend Peter “Hooky” Hook from the legendary UK bands Joy Division and New Order..Hooky owned The Hacienda…The first UK “Super Club” in Manchester in the 1990s. We wrote a new song with him along with Nina and Dana our writing partners in New York. “Hooky” also played bass on two new songs on the album…”That’s What I Hate About You” and “Contagious”.
How was the working experience with “Hooky”?…
FREAK ASYLUM – It was an amazing experience as “Hooky” came to the studio with the original 5 string bass he used on Joy Division “Love Will Tear Us Apart” that was a piece of Rock n Roll history!.. As soon as he started to play it was Joy Division and New Order all over again!, “Hooky” has such a distinctive and unique playing style. Hooky is currently touring the USA with his band “The Light” performing the old Joy Division albums live to a new audience that has never heard them before.
We were fortunate to shoot the video “Something to Say” in “Hooky’s” new club The Factory in Manchester…It’s the old Factory Records building made famous in the film “24 Hour Party People”.
Who else have Freak Asylum been working with?
FREAK ASYLUM – We have also been working with LA guitarist Shane Gibson who was the live guitarist with US Multi Platinum Rock Band Korn. Shane played on “Something to Say” and done some incredible ‘impossible’ guitar parts on the song..
Tell us how the new version of “Oh Pretty Woman” came about?
FREAK ASYLUM – We were approached by Orbison Publishing to record an official new authorised version of the classic Roy Orbison hit “Oh Pretty Woman”. We wanted to do something special with this timeless classic song so we got in touch with one of the biggest guitarists on the planet George Lynch – ‘Mr Scary’ himself.
We had done some shows in LA supporting Lynch Mob and Andy, from Love To Infinity, produced two songs on the last Kristine W album that George had played on. We recorded a new version of the song with some stunning guitar from George with his unique fluid shred style, I prefer this new version to the Van Halen cover from the 1980s, George is the best!
Now you have finished the new album, whats the first single going to be Kelly?
FREAK ASYLUM – The first single off the album is “You Better Leave” written by US Billboard #1 hit writer Toby Gad. Toby has written hits for Beyonce “If I Was A Boy”, The Veronica’s , Alicia Keys, Jessie J etc. We are really pleased to have such a great world proven writer …We love Toby’s work. We have just finished the video to “You Better Leave” I’m really pleased with it, it has a cool twist at the end! Watch it and see!
Describe the style of “Let The Madness Begin!”?
FREAK ASYLUM – We’ve made a great album…the best of my career so far! the album has at least 5 killer hit singles on it plus some great tracks we have written. The album sounds like a cross between P!nk,Gwen Stefani and Madonna meets Van Halen and Marilyn Manson. It’s a cool mix of of catchy radio pop songs with dance beats and rock guitars! We have shot videos to 4 singles “You Better Leave”,”Throwaway”,”Something To Say” and “Fetish”.
We are looking for a deal here in the USA.”You Better Leave” is a great radio smash hit,Sirius Satellite Radio have already picked it up and have started to play it.The video to “You Better Leave” has been picked up and networked across Music Mix USA TV Stations on the Time Warner Cable network, so you will be able to see it on over 40 TV channels across the USA.
So what is next for Freak Asylum?
FREAK ASYLUM – Freak Asylum are out playing live all over the UK and Europe and we are looking forward to coming to the US soon to spread some Freak Madness over the pond in America..
Any final words?
FREAK ASYLUM – “Let The Madness Begin!”…
